Composition : Capsule 250 : Ampicillin 250 mg.
Injection 250 : Ampicillin 250 mg.
Injection 500 : Ampicillin 500 mg.
Indications : Respiratory tract infections : Tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, otitis media, bron-chiectasis.
Gastrointestinal tract infections : Typhoid, paratyphoid, bacillary dysentery, gastroenteritis.
Genitourinary tract infections : Cystitis, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis and gonococcal urethritis.
Other infections : Post operative infections, septicaemia, dental infections, endocarditis, meningitis, osteomyelitis.
Dosage & Administration : Oral dosage : Infections of the ear, nose, throat and respiratory tract infections : Adults : 250 mg every 6 hours.
Children : 50 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 – 8 hours.
Genitourinary tract infections:
Adults : 500 mg every 6 hours. Larger doses may be required for severe infections.
Children : 100 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6 hours.
Gonorrhoea : 3.5 g with 1 g of Probenecid as a single dose.
Gastrointestinal tract infections :
Adults : 500 mg every 6 hours.
Children : 100 mg / kg / day in divided doses every 6 hours.
By intramuscular injection or intravenous injection or infusion :
Adults : 500 mg every 4 – 6 hours, higher doses in meningitis.
Children, under 10 years : half of the adult dose.
